Interactive Art Installation
Ariel Lembeck

brilliant you X dumbo is an adaptation of Ariel's larger interactive installation work, brilliant you, presented in 2021 by Triskelion Arts as part of their Backyard Series. This work uses installation to manipulate the materiality of mylar paper and invites the public to interact with the mirror-like object through participatory scores, as a means of accessing personal consciousness and reflection.

4PM - 5PM
Children’s Movement Class

Isabelle Atallah

This children's movement class will be eclectic! It will consist of dance, breathing exercises, and of course, YOGA! This class will be fun-filled where we stay playful and explorative with our bodies and inner worlds.

5PM - 6PM
Adult Salsa Class

Miguel Alejandro Castillo

Come join this salsa class inspired by Miguel’s work “Sylvia”—a quintet consisting of two dancers, a musician, a cello, and a floating red sculpture of a heart/womb. This piece explores the ebb and flow of our blood, the expansion and contraction of our eros, the pumping of our heart, and our capacity for love and its opposite.

6:15PM - 8PM
Performances

Salomé Egas

Más que un Pétalo is a multidisciplinary performance and workshop series deconstructing the immigrant experience in the United States. Using dance, theater, textile arts, music and video, the performance invites audiences to see the immigration experience through the eyes of a taxo flower, “Tauzhu Sisa”, an Ecuadorian native plant. The flower, dressed in a costume hand-sewn by the artist, starts losing its petals as a take on the game “loves me, loves me not.” As each petal is taken off, words categorizing immigrants such as “welcomed” or “not “welcomed” are exposed. The flower soon realizes that these labels carry the same weight of being wanted and not wanted by a country and its peoples. “Mas que un Pétalo” is sponsored by the American Immigration Council Fellowship of the Creative Equations Fund, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC), along with Motive Brooklyn, Suite V Brooklyn and the Ecuadorian American Cultural Center.

When the audience is no one is a piece of a slowly cumulating solo. It will be a bit like a sonic experiment, a bit like a language experiment, a bit of a score, a bit of a play, and a bit of a play on who's on first.

Two Tone is a bombastic and momentous collage of movement, sound, language, and color. The solo utilizes unison movement, synchronous opposition, and material choreography to highlight detailed difference and structural empathy in a pop-art-high-chroma-unabashed-femme-electric tone.

Songs for my Grandfather (or, new ways to cry) is a new solo performance-in-progress/open mic, the artist will sing a few songs that are near and dear to her heart.

of body of body of is a movement myth for a time of rising oceans and drying lakes. The piece encounters our proverbial watery past and future. It’s a story of evolution and continuation– a surreal, thoughtful, and compassionate look at humans as the part of nature we have always been: just other bodies of water. For this excerpt, the performers will be: Sienna Blaw, Kanami Kusajima, and Mary McGrath. Original score by Zosha Warpeha. This piece will premier in its entirety, with a full cast at MOtiVE on November 4th and 5th. Mark your calendars!

8PM - 9:15PM
Film Screenings

Tori Lawrence

Set in the depleted landscapes that foreshadow our decline, PLOP is a short experimental screendance that follows an out-of-context cube-headed body who has modernized so far that they no longer belong. Landscapes become backdrops and they become lost in portals of space. The work is filmed/edited by Tori Lawrence, performed by Ellie Goudie-Averill, and composed by Michael Wall.

Dance to some jams by Stuart B Meyers - DJ P@Rty GiRL and get lost in the dreamland of The Dumbo Archway under the Manhattan Bridge. Stuart will be MOtiVE’s MC/Hostexx for the evening. Give him some love and come out on Friday!
