SHARRON DEVINE

Theatre Maker | Performer | Director | Scenographer | Community Artist
Sharron Devine trained classically as an Actress in London at East15 Acting School and now works as an independent experimental Theatre Artist with 25 years experience working at the intersections of all art forms and disciplines. Sharron is based in Scotland, is socially engaged with her practice, works locally nationally and has considerable success internationally. Her work is critically acclaimed and award winning. She specializes in creating site specific | site responsive works for micro audiences and audiences of one. These works are informed by her ten years of research into sensory, immersive and olfactory led practices. All her works, large or small are rooted in the provocation of what it means to be human and prefers to focus her lens on the commonality between human beings. Site Specific one on one Festival; Control 25, Liverpool that Sharron was a specialist Artist on, features in the book “Experiencing Liveness in Contemporary Performance”; Interdisciplinary Perspectives published by Rutledge and her other immersive works included in industry discourse. Sharron is owner and co-founder of Studio Space Art (SSA), an independent creative Arts House in Dundee, Scotland committed to listening, offering access to the arts, guidance, mentoring, collaboration and space across live performing arts locally and globally. Sharron has recently set up 3 strands of Residencies through SSA hosting Artists across art forms locally, nationally and internationally. Sharron has performed in most Theatres across the Scottish Theatre touring scene as an Actress and her Theatre works have been programmed and shared at the Arches Theatre (Glasgow), The Tron Theatre (Glasgow), The Traverse Theatre (Edinburgh), National Theatre of Scotland (Theatre without walls), Forest Fringe, (Edinburgh Festival Fringe) Nationally at Wrought Festival (Sheffield) Hope Street (Liverpool), Theatre Absolute, Shop Front Theatre (Coventry) and internationally at the IETM (Copenhagen), Art Teatro (Bratislava), multiple times with Cantabile 2, (Denmark), The Basement Theatre (Auckland), the Xiqu Centre (Hong Kong). Her immersive work “High Gloss” is currently exhibiting at the Carlton Arms Artbreak Hotel (NYC). Sharron was a recent participant in a “3 year International Co-Lab Artist Residency” program for experienced Artists initiated by West Kowloon Cultural District taking place in Edinburgh, Auckland and Hong Kong. Sharron recently delivered a full commission of her work “The Only Way Out Is In” with Theatre Absolute in Coventry at Shop Front Theatre where she created a new site specific/site responsive work in an old fish and chip shop, responding to the provocation, ‘Humanistan’ - (what are you prepared to sacrifice for a fairer society?) premiering live in October 2021 in the year of Coventry UK City of Culture to a sell out audience and critical acclaim. She is currently creating new international work, a duet, “TwinLight Zone” with long time international collaborator Abby Chan and is undertaking ongoing research to create a new local trilogy of live one on one journeys in her home City of Dundee in Scotland where she lives, anchored in architectural theories of place-making, community, connection and home - asking herself the core question - what is the importance of the artists’ relationship to the place they are in/and are from?
