ABBY MAN-YEE CHAN

Choreographer/ Movement Director / Performer
Abby Man-Yee Chan is a graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and was a dancer and guest choreographer with the Hong Kong City Contemporary Dance Company.
She is the founder of Chan-can-dance Theatre and co-artistic director of McMuiMui Dansemble. Abby received the Lee Hysan Foundation Fellowship of the Asian Cultural Council to present her work in the United States and expand the horizons in her dance career. Her choreography has been performed in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Taipei, Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, Kyoto, Malaysia, Sydney, Sao Paulo, Colorado & New York. In addition to dance, Abby has collaborated and performed with theater companies showcasing her versatility in performing arts. Production included O Theatre Workshop’s “Black Monday” and Reframe Theatre’s “A Concise History of Future China” in the Hong Kong New Vision Festival; Hong Kong Arts Festival "Wild Boars” ; Movement director of Dionysus Contemporary Theatre’s “ Equus ” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” ; featured actress in independence movie "PSEUDO SECULAR”. Her free-form dance theatre production “ Kidult Ophelia “ and “ Cattle Runway “ presented at Cattle Depot, the heritage ex-slaughter house. A four time recipient of the Hong Kong Dance Award, Abby is also one of the artists who participate in the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority’s “ON VIEW: Hong Kong” dance film installation exhibition, and International Co-Lab Artist Residency program which took place in Edinburgh, Auckland and Hong Kong. Her recent production “ MMM : RE ” was presented by the Tai Kwun Dance Season 2019. Creative partner, director and choreographer of “ No Man is an Island “ in ÉLAN Lost Child Project HK 2020-22. The project assembled the joint efforts of artists, scholar and community to look into the mental health of youngsters and grown-ups through an eclectic programme of dance, theatre, music, interactive games and forum. Abby has been collaborating/developing her international creative relationship with experienced Scotland based Theatre Maker/Director/Performer/Designer Sharron Devine for 5 years and they are collaborating on new international works together.
